Chapter 11

Seeing Charelle standing a few feet away from me, looking beautiful as ever, caused my heart to race. Damn, I couldn’t believe I had fucked her over like I did. I guess she felt me staring at her because, a few moments later, she looked in my direction. Her face was unreadable, causing me to wonder if she was ready to speak to me. Taking a leap of faith, I slowly made my way over to her, taking her all in. I didn’t stop until I was right in front of her.

“Welcome home, Charelle,” I said with a smile. “It’s been a while.”

“Thanks, Ky,” she replied. “Yes, it has been.” She was being polite, but her body language told a different story. I felt the tension between us.

“I just wanted to come speak, but I was wondering if you want to get together some time to talk and catch up.”

“Umm, I’m still getting settled in, plus I just started my new job, so I’m pretty busy right now,” she said.

“Oh, okay then. Well, whenever you get a chance, just let me know.” She wasn’t feeling me at the moment, and it was clear as day that I wasn’t one of her favorite people at all. “I’ll let you get back to your party. Again, welcome home.” As bad as I wanted to hug her, I decided not to. Instead, I told Zyir that I was leaving, then headed out with my cousin to get a few drinks.

Now I was watching Charelle talk with our friends as if I wasn’t in the room. This girl damn sure wasn’t showing me any love even though her ass was in my crib, eating my food up. It was funny how she swore she was so busy with work and shit, but wouldn’t take the time to have one conversation with me.

“Let’s go smoke one, bro,” Zyir said to me. Getting up, I looked at her one last time before going outside to my patio.

“Man, I’m about to lose my shit! Why is she here if she don’t want shit to do with me? Make it make sense, bruh.” I was frustrated, to say the least. Here I was, trying to make amends, and she wouldn’t give me the time of day.

“You gotta give her some time,” he responded, reaching the blunt out to me. After taking a few pulls, I sat down, closing my eyes.

“Eleven years ain’t enough? I know I fucked up, but damn, man, I’m trying!” I yelled. “All I wanna do is apologize and show her how much I love and miss her. The way she dismissed my ass at her party cut me deep, bro.” I wasn’t one to wear my feelings on my sleeve, but Charelle brought out a different side of me.

“I think we all know how you feel about her, but you can’t make her talk to you until she’s ready. Just respect her wishes and see what happens.” There wasn’t shit I could do but let her be and keep my distance.
